HET HUIS VAN HERMENS

Interior design + branding

Location: Meerssen, The Netherlands

Year: 2021

Located in Meerssen, just outside of the city Maastricht you’ll find Huis van Hermens. A hair and beautysalon with an in house perfumery.

When Ontwerpbureau Reiters was asked to develop the interior of the different spaces it was clear that every one of them had to have their own DNA. The former hair salon is now a place where beauty and hair come together with a in-house perfumery, offering a unique experience.

Hairsalon

Through a hidden door you enter the hair salon. Here you will be welcomed at the bar. You can take a seat on the Friday counter stools from Fest-Amsterdam with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The clean en calm space is characterized by al lot of daylight, the ceppo floor and the bar. The bar that is centrally situated provides a gathering point for customers where they can relax before and in between appointments.

The washrooms, adjacent to the bar are not your typical washrooms. They are characterized by a mirrored ceiling, that looks like they have dents in it create a playful effect and the hand-shaped tiles.

A narrow hallway leads the way to the hair salon where ceppo di gré takes the upper hand. The design is approached in a minimalistic way. From the floor to the ceiling everything is custom made. The blocks are pulled from the floor to create a separation between the seating areas.

The color lab with the aluminium background immediately catches your eye. It is situated in the front of the space. And forms the center of the hair salon, while it is usually tucked away. The geometric shapes are enhanced by the rounded mirrors and neon light on the ceiling. The cocktail bar, which is centrally located in the restaurant, has a plaster-finished base and a vintage oak rim. The illuminated back bar is made of patinated copper plates.

Beauty salon

Behind the cupboards in the back of the hair salon you find the beauty salon. The soft colors and materials provide a luxurious feeling that is enhanced by golden details. In contrast to the other rooms, round shapes are used in the wall finish and in the furniture. The large windows with lots of daylight and the wooden herringbone floor provide a serene environment where you can completely relax.
